Six Governors Already Proclaim June 2018 Great Outdoors Month®!

Great Outdoors Month® is coming! Spring is still five days away and six governors have already proclaimed June 2018 as Great Outdoors Month®! Governors Bill Walker (Alaska), Kim Reynolds (Iowa), Rick Snyder (Michigan), Tom Wolf (Pennsylvania), Bill Haslam (Tennessee) and Gary Herbert (Utah) have issued proclamations recognizing the important economic and healthful benefits of outdoor recreation and urging their residents to enjoy time in the Great Outdoors. We expect the remaining governors and the President to join in this celebration in the coming weeks and months. Help amplify the Governors’ efforts by downloading the state proclamations and sharing them throughout your communications channels! Visit www.greatoutdoorsmonth.org/proclamations to view, download and share each of the attractive and unique 2018 proclamations – and check back again soon for additional postings!

Special thanks go to Gov. Haslam for being the first governor to proclaim Great Outdoors Month in 2018®. And we would like to recognize Govs. Walker, Reynolds and Herbert for highlighting outdoor recreation’s contributions to the national economy where it accounts for 2% of Gross Domestic Product, placing it above industries like agriculture and mining. Many of the proclamations specifically applaud cornerstone Great Outdoors Month® events like Kids to Parks™ Day, American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, National Fishing & Boating Week, National Get Outdoors Day, the Great American Campout and more! They also highlight state efforts to introduce people to healthy, active fun outdoors close to home. Bravo to our nation’s Governors for their leadership in getting Americans outdoors and having fun!
