Interior and Agriculture Departments Sign Unprecedented MOU with Fishing and Boating Industry

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) announced a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (AFWA), American Sportfishing Association (ASA), National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) October 30.  The unprecedented MOU – signed just after Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke declared October as National Hunting and Fishing Month – will expand cooperation for planning and implementing projects and activities to promote recreational fishing and boating conducted on public lands and waters.

"Anglers and recreational boaters help bolster many local economies in the pursuit of these American pastimes," said Secretary Zinke.  "We want to make sure to encourage more people to cast out their lines and get their boats out on the water.  Partnerships like this are vital as we work to increase access to public lands and waters and pass on these traditions to future generations."

Secretary Zinke signed the declaration at the at the grand opening of the Wonders of Wildlife Museum in Springfield, MO, an event that was attended by former Presidents George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush (via video message) and Jimmy Carter – as well as ARC President Derrick Crandall and dozens of other outdoor leaders.  See the declaration here.
