TThe American Recreation Coalition is pleased to welcome National Park Service Director Fran Mainella as its special guest at the November Recreation Exchange. The National Park Service manages 388 different sites, covering more than 83 million acres of public lands, including such national treasures as Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon National Parks, as well as National Recreation Areas, Scenic Trails, Lakeshores, Monuments, Memorials, Historic Sites, Battlefields, and more, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Ms. Mainella has more than 30 years of experience in the park management and recreation field and has served as Director of the National Park Service since her Senate confirmation in July 2001. As Director, she has demonstrated active leadership in many areas, including reducing the park system’s large backlog in maintenance needs and enhancing the agency’s recreation mission. Prior to joining the National Park Service, she served for more than 10 years as Director of the Division of Recreation and Parks for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. During her tenure, the Florida state park system was recognized as the best in the country. In 2002, Ms. Mainella received the Sheldon Coleman Great Outdoors Award from the American Recreation Coalition for her significant, personal contributions to enhancing outdoor recreation resources and experiences in the United States.

Please join us as National Park Service Director Mainella discusses current management challenges and priorities, including finding the proper balance between public access and resource protection, recent progress in addressing maintenance backlogs throughout the system, and more.

Please call us at 202-682-9530 or send an e-mail to rsvp@funoutdoors.com by November 18th to let us know your plans.
